Terms of Service

Version 002, effective 2026-09-28

These Terms govern your use of paddlesnitch.com (the "Service"), operated by Baldur Gudbjornsson ("we", "us", "operator"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who can use the Service

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account (UK GDPR consent threshold). If you are between 13 and 16 you may use the Service only with verifiable parent or guardian consent — contact us at privacy@paddlesnitch.com.

2. What the Service does

The Service does three things:

  • Time trials. Organisers set up river courses; paddlers and rowers upload GPS files; the Service works out times, splits and leaderboards.
  • Paddles. You can add your own paddles (from a file, Strava, a time trial or a tracker) and see an analysis of each one: speed, stroke rate, rests, efforts, and the wind and river flow that day.
  • Trackers. You can link a paddlesnitch tracker, which uploads its recordings on its own.

Paddles get a short summary written automatically by an AI model from your paddle's numbers, your earlier paddles and your diary notes. The summary can be wrong. Treat it as a suggestion, not coaching advice.

  • Timing is amateur. The Service is not a regulated race-timing system. Do not use it for official competition results without a separate human verification step.
  • GPS data quality varies between devices and conditions. Times can be inaccurate.
  • Leaderboards reflect what users submitted; we do not independently verify identities or boat configurations.

3. Your content

You retain ownership of GPS traces and other content you upload. By submitting content you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store the content and display your name + computed time on the leaderboards of any time trial you submit to.

4. Public listings and the make-public mechanism

Important. When you submit to a time trial, the trial's organiser may at any future point choose to make that trial public. If they do, your name + computed time + per-split breakdown becomes visible to anyone on the internet, including search engines.

  • Submitting to a public trial = your performance is public immediately.
  • Submitting to a private or group-scoped trial = your performance is visible only within that scope at the time of submission, but the organiser can later make the trial public. By submitting, you accept that this can happen.

You can request removal of your entries from any trial by emailing privacy@paddlesnitch.com. We will action removal requests within a reasonable timeframe, normally one month under UK GDPR Art. 17.

5. Third-party integrations

The Service integrates with third-party providers including Strava. When you link a Strava account or sign in with Strava:

  • You authorise us to read your activity list, and the position and time data of activities you import, on your behalf. We never post to Strava.
  • If you allow it, new paddling activities are imported automatically. You can turn this off in your account.
  • Strava's own Terms of Service apply to anything you do on Strava through the Service.

Heart rate is never stored, whatever the source. Stroke rate is stored when your file has it.

We may add other integrations in the future. We will update these Terms when we do.

6. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • Submit GPS traces under someone else's identity, or impersonate another user.
  • Use the Service to harass, threaten, or otherwise abuse other users.
  • Try to break, overload, or circumvent access controls on the Service.
  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

7. Your data, your rights

Under UK GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, portability, and erasure. You can:

  • Download a JSON file of the personal data we hold about you from your account page.
  • Permanently delete your account and its data from your account page.
  • Email privacy@paddlesnitch.com for any of the above, or for rectification requests we cannot action through the account page.

Our processing is documented in the privacy policy at /att/privacy.

8. Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any consequential, indirect, or special damages arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for matters that cannot lawfully be limited (e.g. death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud).

9. Changes to these Terms

We may publish a new version of these Terms when material changes happen. When we do, we will email registered users and show the new version number at the top of this document. New accounts accept the current version when they sign up.
